About me
👋 Hey, I’m Jo
Small business cheerleader, spreadsheet fan, and the person who makes your numbers make sense. My journey into the world of accounting started back in 1998, when I landed a temp job as an office junior (mainly to fund my teenage social life!). That turned into a full-time role in a construction company’s accounts team, and soon I was studying for my AAT qualification and diving into the world of finance.
🐙 How Squid Came to Life
In 2023, I set up Squid Bookkeeping to build something that felt more… me. A space where I could support like-minded people, work flexibly around my busy family life (three kids and two cheeky dogs!), and bring my values into every part of the business. Oh, and yes – I love an emoji. They’re basically part of my brand at this point 😄
I wanted my business to stand for more than just great bookkeeping — so I built it around the values that matter most to me:
Support, Quality, Unity, Integrity and Development (and yes, the squid acronym was a happy bonus!).
🧾 What I’ve Picked Up Along the Way
I’ve worked in finance roles across a mix of industries - hospitality, education, publishing, construction, and more - handling everything from chasing invoices and processing payments to pulling together budgets and management reports. I’ve never been one to stick to one corner of the accounts department. Over the years, I’ve taken on whatever needed doing — whether that was cleaning up a backlog, introducing better processes, or helping things run more smoothly day to day. That’s the beauty of working across different teams — you get stuck in, learn what works, and stay flexible. Now, I bring all of that experience into my work with clients. Some just need help keeping things ticking over each month, while others want a bit more hands-on support — I’ll work with whatever your business needs. 🪄

I’m proudly licensed with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), which means your books are in safe, regulated hands. I’m fully qualified, committed to high standards, and here to make a real difference in your business — not just tick boxes.
So that’s the official bit out the way. Yes, I’ve got the certificates and all — but I’m not here to bore you with them. I believe good bookkeeping starts with good relationships. No judgement, no jargon – just clear, friendly support when you need it most.
